Target's Threshold Line Does Organization

One of my first stops when I’m home visiting family in Texas is Target. Maybe it’s because shopping at Target in NYC is like going into war zone.

In Texas, the aisles are deserted and the AC is blasting. Basically, perfect shopping conditions to explore the hot, new line of home goods, Threshold. You won’t want to miss this line with everything from furniture and kitchenware to adorable d├ęcor all at that affordable Target price point.

As I was shopping, I was happily surprised to see an array of organizing products making Target a go-to spot when sourcing products for clients.

This week, I’m sharing some of my favorites.

Organizing for Hurricane Sandy Relief

You might not know that before I started Urban Simplicity, I worked in politics for many years. I worked everywhere from New York City Hall to The White House and several places in between. 

Needless to say, I maintain many contacts with folks down at Mayor Mike Bloomberg’s office, so when they reached out to me for some organizational assistance last month, I was intrigued…

Turns out that One King’s Lane had donated a warehouse full of home goods to the Mayor's Office with the idea that somehow victims of Hurricane Sandy could benefit. The Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City decided to host a tag sale of the items with all the proceeds going into a fund for Hurricane Sandy victims.

Enter a team of professional organizers to take a mixed up warehouse from complete disarray to perfectly sorted in just two and a half days. This is definitely one of the coolest projects I’ve been involved with recently. It was an honor to lead a team of 12 organizers on this project.

I’m back from the Annual National Association of Professional Organizers’ Conference in New Orleans. It seems that organizers are almost as good at partying as they are at, well, organizing.

Despite all the distractions NOLA has to offer, I was able to attend numerous information-packed seminars on everything from moving techniques to productivity strategies for clients. The conference also offers a chance for attendees to get a sneak peak at some of the latest and greatest organizing products and apps out there. This week, I’m writing about two of my finds, one high tech and one low tech. 

Two months ago I became pretty much obsessed with obliterating the junk email in my inbox. Come to find out, there is an easier way. theSwizzle easily unsubscribes users from unwanted email and rolls up the emails you do want into one simple daily digest. You enter your email address, they safely scan it for commercial email, and then you decide what to keep.

  • Coolest Feature(s) – You can get all the commercial emails sent in one daily digest, which means no more immediate inbox distractions. And it’s free.
  • Why Use It to Organize? – Because less emails means less stress.
  • Bright Idea – It’s okay to “Just Say No!” to emails, too. 

Now the low tech…

You’ve heard me go on and on about the perfect bins. PackAways are a unique twist to the average storage solution.
